Mário Kong

Mário S. Ming Kong has a Degree in Architecture at FAUL, PhD in Architecture in the field of drawing and visual communication at Escuela Superior Technical Architecture Barcelona - Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPC-ETSAB). He is presently Phd Professor at FAUL, Lecturer in ESELx and Visiting Professor at the Master Course in arts at ESBAL. Previously taught at Lusophona University (ULHT) and Independent University, respectively in the Departments of Urban Planing and. Architecture. In 2000 was Coordinator of the first year of the course in Urban Planning ULHT In 1998 Regent of the discipline Design/CAD/Geometry in ULHT. He completed his education with a Post-PhD degree at UPC in Barcelona in 2012. Prior to that, he earned his PhD from UPC in Barcelona in 2006. His academic journey began with a Master's degree from FA/UTL in Lisbon in 2001, and he initiated his undergraduate studies in Architecture at FA/UTL in Lisbon back in 1993. His main research areas are: Harmony and proportion in representation between West and East and its application to Sustainable Architecture, in particular by applying concepts of origami and Kirigami to materials such as paper and bamboo. His areas of research and professional expertise encompass a diverse range of topics, reflecting his multidisciplinary approach to architecture. These include Architecture, Rehabilitation of Urban Spaces, Drawing, Harmonious Tracings, Oriental Studies, and the Plasticity of paper in the Creative Process of Architecture. Additionally, he has a keen interest in Paper Architecture and Sustainable Materials, which align with his commitment to environmentally conscious and innovative architectural practices.
